Ring sling GIVEAWAY

I am late, as usual, to the party. But I'm glad you stopped by, because I really do like participating in the quarterly Bloggy Giveaway carnival. Good times. :)

I am giving away a brand new, handmade by me, Lullaby Slings ring sling. You can win it for yourself or for a friend. Isn't it pretty? It is made of a sturdy bottomweight 100% cotton fabric. Absolutely guaranteed not to slip in the rings (and especially good for someone new to babywearing.)

(One small note: there is a tiny little mistake in the decorative heart stitching - I ran out of thread in the middle of a stitch and had to start again. It isn't very noticeable, but I did want to mention it.)

One of the reasons I'm giving this away is because I want to bring some attention to the new CPSIA lead testing law that will make it impossible for me to legally do business after February 10th. Don't worry, there isn't any lead in my slings! :) Unfortunately, the new law requires anyone who makes anything for children under age 12 to test EVERY PRODUCT they make for lead, regardless of what it is made of, and since that costs thousands of dollars it functionally puts me out of business. I wrote a detailed post about it all here.

But I can certainly give my slings away, and that is just what I'm going to do! To win, all you have to do is leave a comment telling me

1) if you're a newbie to babywearing or a seasoned expert, and/or
2) who you plan to give the sling to and why.

AND if you want a couple of extra entries, you can do the following:

1) Read my post about laws with unintended consequences. I do ask that you read the whole thing, because it really is important to understand what is going on.

2) Send emails to your senators and representatives. There are links to easy ways of doing that in the post I mentioned.

If you do want the extra entries, please leave SEPARATE comments telling me of each thing you did. You can have up to three entries (comment, read post, and send emails) but you need to leave three comments telling me about it. Make sense? Ok.

Please be sure to leave a way of contacting you - either through your blog or include an email address in your comment.

Also, please read the guidelines before commenting. I will delete all comments of the "enter me" and "pick me" and "you're cool" variety.

I'll leave the contest open until Saturday (1/31) at midnight. Good luck!

I am on my fourth baby and am new to baby wearing. I have tried one baby front pack once. It was so uncomfortable that I took it back. I would love to try this as I have heard so many moms talk about these!

I am pregnant with my second, and I wish that I had a sling with my first baby. I think my back still hurts, and I have heard such wonderful things about slings! Thanks so much for the giveaway!

I'm pregnant with my third, and I tried a few cheap carriers with my other two, but I've never had a nice sling carrier!

This is a great giveaway! We don't have kids yet, but are hoping to get pregnant this year!! I would love to try babywearing and have heard wonderful things about ring slings. So many benefits for mama and baby. I would love to win!

I am new to baby wearing. I did not have a sling with my first child and now that I'm pregnant with my second child, I think baby wearing would be a huge help. So I would like the sling for myself but I also have several friends that are pregnant too that this would make a great gift for.

I wore my son in a Bjorn, but had trouble with that pretty early, as I'm short and he got in my way early on. So I need a new plan for baby #2! This would be for me.

I'm a newbie b/c my kids aren't here yet! But I hope to be a pro within a few months - I think with two on the way, I'll definitely be wearing one most of the time!

My sister is the one currently baking a baby and she is the one that will be babywearing. I think that the sling is beautiful!

Thank you!

I e-mailed our Congressman, Tim Ryan yesterday. I've written a post about it on my blog that will post tomorrow. Swing by and read. I'm a handcrafting mom and am effected by the CPSIA regulations as well. Ugh.

I've never tried baby wearing before, but my third child is a newborn and I would love to try!

I read your post about the new CPSIA regulations as well...like you said, whoever wrote it had the best of intentions but the repercussions will be wide swept, and probably not in the way it was intended to be...thanks for helping to raise awareness.

I would love this sling as opposed to the bulky denim and padded sling that I borrowed from my sister-in-law. I have a baby wrap that I have used off and on, but when she was really little, my daughter would only accept the sling. For the next baby, I will definitely need a better sling so I can have enough hands to take care of more than one child! The hearts are beautiful.

Oh, and I have heard about this law and been really sad about it, but after reading your other post I wrote to my senators and representative.

Katy said...

Emily your sling is beautiful:). I am a moby user but have wanted to try a ring sling for outtings;) I can't lie I am not sure if I will keep it for me or gift it to a prego friend...so hard to decide:). Happy gifting and I am so sorry about those lead laws hpoefully they figure it all out quick...I know OR is working on that now!!

I have used a front pack with my last 2 babies. My youngest is now too heavy for me to comfortably wear him in that, and I would love to get a sling for him!

When I was in the Philippines, I wore the babies in a sling when I took them outside. If I win this one, I will probably take it with me when I return to the Philippines.

I am on baby #3 and he has tortocollis (or however you spell it) so now I feel like I have to hold him all the time to avoid flattening the side of his head more! I HATE the sling I have right now. I actually just met some babywearing moms in the area that have a group and am considering joinint them.

I already emailed both the congressman and senator of NE. This new law SUCKS!

Molly said...

I'm not new to babywearing, but I'm not seasoned. I used my sling a lot with my third baby, until she was six months old and then I couldn't figure out what to do with her. I didn't know anyone else who used slings. Now I'm on baby #5 and I use the sling to help me hold her when she wants to be held, but the sling I have isn't working well for her in this position with her at this larger size. I would like to try this kind of ring sling. I think it would work better for our purposes.

Well, I don't know that I'm "seasoned" in baby wearing, but I do enjoy it, though haven't done as much of it as I'd hoped to.

If I won, I would give the sling to one of my co-workers who is due with #1 on St Patrick's Day.

Thanks for the chance to win! Come check out my giveaway, too.

I think this is such a dumb law I have signed the petition and hope that they decide to change it. I often buy from second hand shops and ebay etc. y child would not be able to dress so cute if this law goes into effect.

Thank you for being part of the Bloggy giveaway.

I wore my first baby some, but I am finding that wearing the second is very necessary since my 19 month old still needs so much help from mommy!

I have never "worn a baby"! so..I guess I am a newbie, i guess? This would be for my friend who is expecting her first child in April. thanks!

Unknown said...

I have one baby and I tried two different slings with her. She didn't like either, but I'm still searching!

Candace said...

I'm due with my 4th in April, and have tried slings in the past, but it must've been a cheap kind. Neither the baby nor myself liked it! :)

Needless to say, my hands are full, so a sling would be a very convenient way to carry this new little one.

Thank you for being a Christian witness on your blog! I really feel for you with the whole CSPIA, it's hurting me too. :(

FYI - Aren't cotton materials being exempted? You'd just have to leave off the metal rings and use untreated wood. I think this would clear you??

Emily,
I am so excited I cannot tell you! With Ana's reflux, she has become more of a mommy-worn baby:) I have a baby bjorn for errands that I LOVE but other than holding her hours on end, have yet to find the easy solution for day to day here at home. I would love to learn. I have tried a few other styles of slings and felt like she was going to fall out. I love the stitching! Beautiful!

Cowen Family said...

I did not comment on your post regarding changing law when you wrote it, but it certainly did affect me. I make baby blankets and burp cloths and boy oh boy this hit home. (In fact a gift for baby #3 will appear in your mail hopefully...well soon:) My hobby became a small business and now just a hobby that blesses people by the gifts. With the law, sure makes me wonder where it stemmed from...I will write a letter hopefully tomorrow...Hannah

I meant to say this in my last comment - I read your post, and I'm affected by this, too. Just as I was starting up my own handmade toys business, I started reading about this legislation. I'm praying hard that it gets changed!

And I just read your post about the CPSIA. Have written on it a few times myself, though mostly on the secondhand issue and that seems to have been SEMI-resolved....

I am so sorry for all of the small businesses that have been affected and hold out some small hope that the avalanche of unhappy constituents will make the reexamine the rules and offer small sellers some relief. (Though it's a SMALL hope -- I realize the wording of the law itself doesn't leave much wiggle room.)

Unfortunately, I don't have any representatives of my own to contact because I live in the District of Columbia -- home of "taxation without representation".
